RM of Kindersley’s story
The Rural Municipality of Kindersley No. 290 was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 12, 1910. It lies in the west-central part of Saskatchewan and surrounds the town of Kindersley and the villages of Brock, Flaxcombe and Netherhill. The unincorporated localities of Fairmount, Pinkham and Verendrye are also within its boundaries.
Today the RM is governed by an elected council and an appointed administrator, with its office in Kindersley. Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month.
The area is also known for its birdlife. The Teo Lakes in the Verendrye channel sit at the centre of the Kindersley-Elma Important Bird Area, which covers about 285 square kilometres and is home to birds such as the mallard, green-winged teal, ruddy duck, ferruginous hawk, Swainson's hawk and burrowing owl. In the fall migration, more than 15,000 geese and 10,000 ducks use the lakes and surrounding countryside.
